Start 2013 with Bristol Silents!

January is always a busy time for us at Bristol Silents. Our 9th Slapstick Festival is, of course, keeping us busy at the moment, as are some as of yet unannounced events that we’ll reveal later on in the year. But before all that, we thought we would give you a new year present and announce the first few Bristol Silents Club Screenings of 2013!

Firstly though we have some other rather exciting news for you – namely that next years club screenings will be held in a brand new venue! Before we introduce you to our brand new home though a big thank you to everyone at the King’s Arms who’ve been fantastic over the past months & whose award winning burgers we will especially miss. However, despite those burgers we thought it best to move to a venue closer to the centre of Bristol and we couldn’t find a more suitable place to host our screenings than an old haunt of many of ours, The Lansdown Pub in Clifton (next to the Royal Mail Depot).

Apart from being another fantastic pub The Lansdown also has a superb screening room upstairs which keeps the sounds of the rest of the pub at bay, something which is obviously a real bonus we think, so much so that we really can’t wait to get going in our new venue.

Apart from the new venue, nothing else has changed. So the Club Screenings will still be free for everyone, doors will still open at 7:30pm, we’ll still be handing out special notes at each screening and we’ll still have special guests to introduce each film.

Wednesday 16th January: Special Slapstick Edition – Marion Davies Night
The first screening of 2013 will be a celebration of the great comedienne Marion Davies who will be celebrated thoughout our 9th Slapstick Festival as part of the festival’s “funny ladies” strand.
Introducing the night will be Slapstick Festival Director & Bristol Silents co-founder Chris Daniels.

Wednesday 13th February: Greta Garbo Night
February will see the return of the ‘Great Garbo’ to the Bristol Silents Club Screening canon. Expect mood music and mood lighting to go with tonight’s screening!
Intro will be by Aardman Animations’ Tom Vincent.

Wednesday 13th March: Early Scandinavian Film Night
After a highly successful Club Screening last year, we are thrilled to announce the return of Bristol Silents’ very own Scandinavian film enthusiast Dr Peter Walsh who will take us on another adventure into the world of silent Scandinavian film.
Intro by Dr Peter Walsh.

Wednesday 10th April: British Silent Film Night
April is always the month in which we celebrate home-grown films and 2013 will be no exception. This month you can expect a ‘smashing’ time for British Silent Film.
